Hey Ganga!Nice to see you aurond again!I agree with you. The sense of belonging is something natural to human beings. And I’m with you 100% when you say that Capoeira can be seen as common cultural practice bringing diverse people together; as we all belong’ to the Capoeira community. But why sometimes belonging make to difficult to understand the way other people develop their Capoeira practice?Axe Ganga!

MMA is not a maaitrl art. Is just a sport that showcases a variety of techniques from various maaitrl arts to win a competitive match. I don’t have an issue with MMA and enjoy watching some of the events but I do have a problem with all the people out there that now thing all we, as real maaitrl artists who have dedicated a huge portion of our lives to perfecting an authentic maaitrl art system, is related to such a violent promoting event such as the UFC or Strikeforce.I have several friends who are authentic maaitrl artists with many years of dedicated study to their chosen art who have now began offering MMA classes for no other reason than to cash in the trend. I also feel that is wrong because they have accepted it and made promoting the violence of the sport alright within their own dojo. They know my stance and I understand theirs you have to feed your family right?I teach full time and have since 1992 but money is not my focus. Everyone that knows me personally respects my decision to not offer MMA but I teach four different arts at my school and as the student progresses beyond black belt they are trained in them all but not until they reach black belt in our primary art. What MMA has done is proven that the world loves violence even more now. It has proven that people can be snowed into believing that a rule based sport in a cage / circle can prove which art is the most effective even though there are many authentic masters out there that would waste some of these guys in real fights. MMA has also made it cool to fight to prove you are tough or whatever which is wrong. In the last year I have seen more children and teens fighting in back yards, at schools or whatever because they think that is what the MMA guys are all about. This is morally wrong on behalf of the people that teach MMA and forget about teaching the morals real maaitrl artists have and instill in their students.I could go on for hours but in short MMA has very little to do with authentic maaitrl arts or its real meaning but it is a neat sport to watch however I they will soon be the next big mcdojo craze in the US which has already began to happen with all the people out there who have no training that think they can teach because they watch it on tv .

        Nice comment,
here at Brazil Academy students can only take the MMA training by invitation.
Only the people that are training BJJ, Muay Thai for a period of time and want to become fighters we can help them out with Our MMA training program. It’s not a class, it’s a training program.

  12. Gig says:

I don’t ceelpmtoly understand the question but if I’m understanding it right i think that MMA is over rated and shouldn’t be considered a martial art because you don’t learn advance techniques in any of the styles you train in, its a sloppy, faster way to learn basics about different techniques and styles.
