Yoga In a Nutshell

Yoga is meditation. It is an ancient Indian practice that aims for physical, spiritual and mental discipline. The main goal is the attainment of perfect tranquility. To that end, it would appear that the practice of Yoga hasn’t completely changed.

Today, especially in the West, Yoga is considered more as exercise, and even art, and rightly so, for this practice defines the slow, gradual strengthening of the mind and body. Through the various styles and their corresponding postures, a person exerts his or herself, not forcing, but slowly molding the body into a tool that can properly express the necessary postures.

Health and Wellness

After two days up to a solid week of practice, you’ll experience the Yoga health benefits that most practitioners are treated to.

The first change you’ll notice is that you’ll have a lot more energy. While doing the poses, a practitioner is taught to breathe properly, allowing your lungs to circulate oxygen and nutrients more efficiently throughout the body. The boost of energy empowers you to properly execute poses, while at the same time stabilizing your body so it can handle the physical stress imposed by the practice. This raises your level of conditioning, your body’s gas tank.

Another benefit is core strength and flexibility. As you reach, twist, bend, and curl, you will be taught to use your entire body to find your center and keep your balance as you execute poses. Your body’s core will be forced to work, taking your entire body with it’s strength and flexibility that’ll be beneficial even outside of Yoga practice.

Beginners are Welcome

Don’t worry if you haven’t done anything like this before. Yoga, since its inception, was designed to be doable by everyone, athlete or not. From the most basic poses, a person can move on to intermediate, and even difficult poses in a matter of days, or even hours if the body and mind permits.       Thanks for snhriag. After being brought up Jewish, in 1975 I had the honor to attend a 3 day retreat with Yogi Bhajan in Hawaii and continued my studies with Guru Sevic Singh. Those were incredible days of my youth.
